Giving up cat for adoption nyc

He was crying all the way to the woman's house but she said once she got him inside he made himself right at home. She seemed really excited and happy to have him, he's a really beautiful cat, affectionate and doesn't have a mean bone in his body and they seemed to respond well to one another.

So, should I just part ways and bounce or am I allowed to check up on him with a phone call or email every once in a while? I want to make sure he's adjusted but I don't want him back.

He and I had rocky relationship. Dude, if you couldn't handle owning a cat, don't look back. Let him and the new owner bond and stay out of it. He was lonely and I wasn't able to give him the attention and time he needed, so I found a woman who had lots of time to spare and lots of love to give. He's in a better situation, but he's a very needy little guy. I've had him for a few years and I think I may be suffering from separation anxiety. Yeah I don't want to see him, I just want to make sure that everything is OK.

He acts out aggressively, knocks shit over, cries all night I don't want her to put him in a shelter if she can't handle it. I think you should just break ties too and let him and his new mommy bond. In the long run, I think this might be easier for both of you.

Aight so I'll shoot her an email in a week or so and make sure they cool but that's it. I would think calling in would be fine. It doesn't affect the cat to call. And I would be like you, worried that the woman may take him to a shelter instead of calling you if it doesn't work out.

And if I were the one adopting, it would be reassuring to know his past home cared enough to check in. When I first adopted my princess angel daughter baby chihuahua, the foster home she came from called me one week after to see how it was going, and then she called me again 2 months after that. I was cool with it, she was very nice and obviously cared a lot about my princess angel daughter baby chihuahua RUBY! Sara "how dry I am" M. He was lonely and I wasn't able to give him the attention and time he needed, He's a CAT, they LIKE being lonely and dont require much attention.

He acts out aggressively, knocks shit over, cries all night Oh, I didnt read far enough. She's passing her problem onto someone else.

K, you'd be surprised, there are some cats that do require some attention. They're not all anti social. I explained all of that to his new owner and she knew exactly what his problem was.

Taking in an animal is a major commitment. People take in animals without thinking things though, if you know you don't have the time or the money for one, then don't get one! However, I highly doubt "overly aggressive, knocking shit over, screaming all night" satanic kitty fell into that category.

My male cat hates attention and people. He'll only approach me when he wants something-- like treats, or if a door needs to be opened, or something to bite usually my fingers or toes. I pick him up and hug him when I want to bug him or punish him.

Giving Up a Cat

I adopted my cat last year from a couple who had the cat foisted on them by a roommate who took the cat in, and then moved in to a non cat friendly apartment. They were really attached to him, but the husband was so allergic, it was a really untenable situation. We agreed that if for whatever reason, my situation with the cat was not working anymore, they would be the first people that I contact if he needs rehoming. They do email me occasionally to see how he is doing, and I sent them an email for Christmas with some cute photos I took of the cat.

I don't think it's unreasonable to check in with the adoptive catmom a week after you have given her your furbaby. Unless you think she'll be like 'he's terrible! Kevin - I will repeat for you something my mother used to tell me a lot. You should work for Briana "everthinginmylifeisproblemhow canicheermyselfup" M. Sorry, but people who ditch animals because of their own personal selfishness, in the immortal words of Peter Griffin, "really grinds my gears".

IMO, they deserve condemnation, not "understanding". He loves being around people and this woman is home all the time and has family and friends visit frequently. I put her through the 3rd degree, even checked a reference! I wanted to make sure that she would be the right person for him.

He's the sweetest cat I've ever met, and the only one I've ever had that was so needy! How am I an irresponsible pet owner if I found him another home because I wasn't able to provide him with the attention he needed to be happy? I think that makes me a responsible pet owner. Valerie, it wasn't an easy decision to make but it was for the best, he was so lonely but now he's with someone who has lots of time to dedicate to him and he really responded well to her. Hopefully it works out and they find true love with one another.

Unless you can provide for the life of the cat in the first place, you shouldn't adopt. I know dire circumstances come up and I'm not saying you didn't do the right thing.

Life changes but I believe if you bring a pet into your life and home you should make every effort possible to keep it.

Like, if a building isn't pet friendly, don't move there.

It's not like if you had a kid you'd give the kid up for an apartment. There's a reason why a lot of adoption places ask you if you can make a 15 year commitment. It's like people who adopt kittens then let them become strays after they grow up and aren't considered "cute" anymore.

I didn't adopt him, he was a stray kitten I found in an alley. Sara, it's all good. You're a good person. Nothing more to see here. Sara, you did the right think taking him in and did the right thing giving him up. And asking if you can check in is a very loving response to a difficult situation.

It sucks this thread took a nosedive. Sara is as sweet as pecan pie. Get off her nuts paypals!!! S - for sure you can call in after a week or so to see how it's going. But I wouldn't go in person. You did the right thing for kitty: How this turned into a debate I have no idea, but that sucks, I'm sorry.

My cat's nearly 2 yrs old and isn't in the least anti-social examples include meowing outside the bathroom door in the morning or trying to sleep on my head when I'm trying to go to bed , but she also doesn't do what you talked about either.

I couldn't imagine giving her up.

But it sounds like you're giving the cat what he needs over what you want, which is a good definition of a responsible pet owner. A pet deserves a good life first. It's pretty good of you to go through with this. I don't think I could handle giving up my little guy.

I once had to put him in a temporary home for a few weeks while I looked for an apartment and I couldn't even look at him when I was dropping him off because it was too much. It's just a cat but somehow I thought he might get the idea I was abandoning him. Silly to think that because it's a cat and it can't rationalize that but still made me feel like shit.

Anyway good for you.

Never mind the bigot's ridiculous "I know you are but what am I? He's a racist, all right, and worse. You had it exactly right. Being an ass on here is as close as he'll get to doing what he really wants to do, which involves round clips and Democratic Congresspersons. I know this was hard for you, sarita. Glad you finally found him a good home! I love my cats so much, I could never, never give them up.

It seems people in NYC are more prone to giving away cats than other places. New apartment that says no pets? No problem, lets just put the cat on craigslist! Seriously, why did you get a cat in the first place? You say you found a kitten in an alley I'm sure you kept it because it was cute.

Not so cute anymore? If you had thought you might have to give him up in the future, you should of found someone to raise him right then. All cats have distinct personalities with their own quirks and personal tastes, and the cats I've owned are at least as smart as the average dog.

My cat Magnus is a 15 lb. I think I would be crushed to give him up. At least you didn't give him up because you moved to a new place that didn't allow cats.

Those people are evil. I'll leave you all with this: Think twice before adopting an animal. If you can't make a life commitment, no matter the circumstances, then do not adopt an animal.

How do you know your cat's new owner won't "move into a building that doesn't allow cats" and ship your cat off to a shelter like that? You're not a responsible pet owner, and you should have to listen to this.

If you want a "fucking break" then why did you post on a public forum about it? You should just do what you want, pass off your "problem" onto someone else and never look back. If you "feel bad" about that, maybe you should ask yourself why. Sara, Is your cat's name Pinky? You did the right thing by finding a home for him. My cat was a stray. Now I can't even imagine her on the streets because she's such a pussy. I'm sure Sara finds it terrifically helpful to be scolded by you!

And as a side note, I think your lack of empathy or perspective would make you a great match for Devin. I'm sure you're both single. He had clearly been adopted and surrendered again. She asked me to call about him, so I did; he had already been euthanized. With critical pressures budget and sheer numbers on the city shelter as well as private shelters around the city, please think twice before surrendering an animal; if you give a pet up to the NYC shelter, he's probably doomed.

We've all made mistakes I'm sure we've all had at least one incident while makng chicken soup, right? I genuinely feel sorrow for you.

Princess "Jade Bunny" X. That's exactly what the "responsible" pet owner would do Wait a sec, your cat made the decision to move into another building that didn't allow him? Didn't you think you'd be criticized when you posted this thread?

I'm still trying to figure out why you started it to begin with Thanks B, next I'm adopting a Cock. Maybe we can have a UYE: Just sayin' - do whatcha gotta do Sara, you should have quit your job to spend more time with your cat. Sara you should have hired a governess to teach your cat Latin.
